Chaska Boy Scout Troop # 589
The Jonathan Association has been the Charter Sponsor of Chaska Boy Scout Troop # 589 for nearly 40 years, one of the longest-running such relationships on record in the State of Minnesota for Scouting. Chaska Boy Scout Troop # 589 is a member of the Lake Minnetonka District of the Northern Star Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
In 2011, the Jonathan Association was named “Outstanding Charter Partner” by the Lake Minnetonka District for its efforts on behalf of Troop # 589. The Association provides camping equipment and accessories, the Pavilion at Lake Grace as a meeting and storage area, and hosts an annual “welcome back” hog roast picnic for Troop # 589.
During 2009-2011 Troop # 589 had more Eagle Scouts, more Grey Wolf participants, and more completed Wood Badge ticketed adult leaders than during any other 3-year period in its 37 years of existence.
In 2012 the Jonathan Association and Chaska Boy Scout Troop # 589 commenced partnership efforts to complete a renovation of the Pavilion at Lake Grace, called the “BHAG”.(big hairy audacious goal).
Effective 12-31-2013, The Chaska Boy Scout Troop 589 dissociated from its 40-year charter relationship with Jonathan Association. The Troops leadership team made the decision to seek a new charter sponsor for the following reasons: Jonathan lacked a suitable facility for troop meetings and equipment storage; Jonathans budget could no longer guarantee Troop 589 that current financial support levels could be increased or even maintained into the future; and, Jonathan was no longer home to a clear majority of Scouts, families or adult Troop leaders from Troop 589. The end of the long charter sponsor relationship occured amicably, and Troop 589 has since found a new charter sponsor organization in the city of Victoria.
